Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of an Academic cum Welfare Centre with a potential to be a University only for Women by RKSM-NIHAR

In 1898, Ma Sarada Devi inaugurated Sister Nivedita’s school for imparting education to Indian girls in national lines in the presence of Swami Vivekananda and his brother disciples at 16 Bosepara Lane, Baghbazar. Five years later, in 1903, when Sister and her school shifted in No.17 she wrote to her friend, “I would like much to make No. 17 a real University settlement….” (January 20, 1903). More than a hundred years later, Ramakrishna Sarada Mission is pushing Sister’s  dream forward by embarking upon a mission to create an independent university only for women. The adjacent property at No. 19 has already been purchased and Rail Vika Nigam Limited (RVNL) has extended financial support under CSR grant towards construction of this academic cum welfare centre.

On Saturday, March 4, 2023 Pravrajika Amalaprana, General Secretary, Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission laid the foundation stone of this building. She said that by sowing the seed of education and social welfare in Baghbazar area where Sister Nivedita resided, RKSM is feeling very happy. The program started with Chandipath in the morning followed by Puja and Homa. Dr. Shashi Panja, Cabinet Minister for Industries, Commerce & Enterprises and Department of Women & Child Development & Social Welfare, Government of West Bengal graced the occasion by her presence.  From RVNL Shri Sankar Pal, Senior DGM-HR was also present along with a number of dignitaries, nuns, devotees and well-wishers. The program ended with devotional songs and Prasad distribution.
